About Us
- Located in the Moutere Hills, Kakariki Olives was established in 2000 by John and Helen Dunlop. Now owned by Ray & Brenda Gregory, the family run olive grove has over 3200 trees and thrives in the warm, sunny climate & clay soils. Pressed on site within hours of harvesting, the Tuscan varietals Frantoio and Leccino have been carefully blended to produce this premium extra virgin olive oil.
- We are proud to be one of the only commercial olive groves in the Nelson region which allows us to supply olive oil in bulk to restaurants, retailers & private customers all over New Zealand. Along with our Award Winning Extra Virgin and Lime Infused Olive Oils we produce Lemon Infused Olive Oil. Extra Virgin is great for everyday cooking, and all 3 as a dip for fresh bread, drizzled over vegetables, pasta and salads and the citrus infusions are perfect for cooking fish.
- Due to the drought in Summer 2019, our fruit had a lot less water in it compared to other years. This allowed us to create a robust blended oil created from Kalamata, Piccoline and Picual olives. At the 2019 Extra Virgin Olive Oil awards, we won a gold medal and took out 'Best in Class' in the intense blend category. Our Mediterranean blend then went on to win Gold at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in 2020. Both of which are achievements that we are extremely proud of.
